Creative goals for 2018

Can you believe that 2018 is upon us? I’m sure you have noticed that as we get older, time seems to go more quickly. It can be frustrating so I’m looking for ways to slow things down a bit.

I’m not big on New Year resolutions but I do think about goals for the future and this year I have some goals that are specific to my creativity. Many of the things that bring us much joy may also bring stress and negativity to our lives. We seem to be pulled down by many elements in our lives and if we let it happen, our creative juices may begin to ebb quite a bit and not flow so much.

For 2018 I hope to broaden my creative abilities. I work most often with three-dimensional art so two-dimensional, like painting, comes less easily to me. This year I want to work more with journaling and motivational pieces and acrylic on canvas (and I’m open to suggestions that you may have, as well).

So, what are your plans for 2018? Where does your purpose come from? Here are some ideas to get you started:

Plan: Write out your creative goals, your dreams, and what makes you happy. What road might your journey take as you work your way through the year? Feel free to update this plan as your life’s path takes twists and turns.

Create: Create a connection to the things that are most important to you. If it works for you, bring creativity into your gifts, your values, and your purpose. Find creative ways make these connections like a little note or drawing in a lunchbox or on a child’s mirror to greet them as they get ready for the day. Maybe a note in your significant others’ phone or laptop case would bring a little sunshine to their morning at work or school.

Dream: What are some possibilities you would like to create for yourself. What if? Write these down and find a way to put them in front of you on a framed saying or wall hanging so you don't lose sight of them.

Craft: Check out Pinterest or search for DIY art tutorials and find something that really catches your eye. (A great place to check is at and our free videos!) Then, go for it!

Finding your creativity can be a wonderful journey so enjoy it as you go. Not everything will go as planned and that is OKAY! Learn from your goofs and find how to spread your wings and believe in yourself and your ability to lead a creative life.

Please be sure to share your goals and your journey with us here at Mystic Spring Studios. Share on our Facebook page so we can get inspiration from each other.

Here’s to 2018!
