The other day I stumbled across an intriguing movie title in my “suggested films” stream - A Woman in Gold. The cast (Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds) enticed me to give the movie a chance, and boy did I love it! The film about a Jewish refugee who took on the Austrian government to recover a priceless painting that belonged to her family that was confiscated during World War II by the Nazis. The lengths that this woman and her lawyer went to in order to get what was rightfully hers were extraordinary, and I could not help but wonder how much art was stolen or lost in the war. It does warm my heart to know, however, that there are pieces being returned to their owners even today: https://news.artnet.com/art-world/artworks-confiscated-nazis-restituted-jewish-art-collector-1640692
If you are looking for something good to watch, I highly recommend this movie.
